BFT Welding & Fabrication: The North Richland Hills Owner’s Guide
We stock and install BFT-compatible weldments, brackets, gate frames, and hinge assemblies throughout North Richland Hills, with most repairs priced between $145 and $475 installed, depending on what bent or snapped. A broken weld on a BFT swing gate or slide gate usually finds you in one of two ways: the gate starts dragging and shuddering mid-cycle, or it simply won’t open one morning because a bracket tore loose from the post. The good news is that we weld on site, in your driveway, so the gate doesn’t leave your property. A live person answers our phone around the clock at (817) 241-4067.
Most owners don’t realize the weld didn’t fail first. The material around it did. In North Richland Hills, with our clay soil shifting and summer heat cycling metal, we regularly pull up to gates where the weld is intact and the post itself split, or where the original installer ran a bead on painted steel and called it done. That’s the kind of thing we fix once and fix right. We’re an independent shop, not affiliated with BFT, but we’re certified to service their equipment, and we’ve been repairing it across the northeast Tarrant County area since 2001.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
If you own a BFT Deimos, Phobos, or Botticelli swing gate operator, the welded components we typically address are the gate leaf brackets, hinge yokes, and the post plates the operator mounts to. For BFT slide gate systems like the Aries, BBT-Bat, or ICARO lines, the common weld points are the rack mounting tabs, the guide roller brackets, and the steel foundation plates the track bolts through. If you’re unsure which model you have, the operator’s serial plate is usually on the side of the motor housing or inside the cover. Take a photo of it before you call, and we can usually tell you over the phone whether the part you need rides on our truck or needs to be ordered.
One BFT-specific gotcha: the older Deimos BT units used a metric gate bracket with 18mm pivot spacing. The newer A-series went to a slightly wider pattern, and the two don’t interchange. If you’re shopping online for a bracket, that’s the difference between one that bolts up and one that has you redrilling holes in a $900 gate. As for OEM versus aftermarket, we’ll be honest: for a simple steel gate bracket, a quality local fabrication often outlasts the original, because we can add gussets where BFT’s stamped part was thin at the bend. For anything involving the operator’s internals, we recommend OEM. Steel is steel. A motor isn’t a motor.
Signs Your BFT Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate shudders or jerks when it starts moving. This usually means the weld holding the rack or the gate bracket has cracked through one side and the part is flexing under load. It hasn’t let go yet, but it’s auditioning for the part.
- The gate sags at the latch end. The hinge weld rarely fails in a clean line. What happens is the weld held, and the post metal buckled around it. A sagging gate means the hinge post is tired, not lazy.
- You hear a clank or pop each time the gate reverses. A broken weld moves a fraction of an inch until it catches. The noise you’re hearing is the catch and release, and it’s chewing up the surrounding metal every cycle.
- The operator housing has pulled loose from its mounting plate. On BFT swing units, the operator base plate is welded or bolted to a post bracket. Vibration plus wind loading can fatigue that connection until the motor hangs loose like a bad tooth.
- Rust streaks run from a joint or bolt hole. That’s moisture working inside the connection. By the time you see the streak, the steel underneath has lost a good chunk of its section, and the next hard shove from a storm wind will finish it.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what we charge in North Richland Hills for the welding and fabrication jobs that come across our bench most often. Every price is quoted and agreed before we strike an arc, and the quote doesn’t change at the door.
- Gate leaf bracket fabrication and weld: $145-$185
- Hinge yoke repair or replacement, welded on site: $195-$285
- Slide gate rack mounting tab repair (per tab): $95-$140
- Operator mounting plate fabrication and weld: $220-$340
- Full post reinforcement with new gusset plates: $275-$475
Parts and labor are quoted separately on paper, so you can see exactly where your money goes. If the repair is over $200, take $40 off. No trip charge if you’re inside the county. Seniors and veterans get 10% off, always. And every weld we put down in North Richland Hills carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it’s not right, one call brings us back, no runaround.
DIY or Call Us?
I’ll give you the same answer I give my neighbors off Smithfield Road: you can inspect this yourself. You can look for rust streaks, crack lines, or a gate that’s dropped a quarter inch at the latch. What you shouldn’t do is fire up a borrowed buzzbox and try to weld a gate bracket while it’s still under tension. A spring-loaded BFT gate holds stored energy, and a slide gate under wind load will bite you if the cut lets go. That’s not gatekeeping, it’s just the truth. A bad weld on a gate in a storm is worse than no weld.
We bring the welder to you, handle the cutting, grinding, and painting to match, and stand behind it for 90 days. If you want to save the back and the worry, call (817) 241-4067 and we’ll set a time that actually works.
FAQs
In our clay-and-heat environment, a properly welded and painted gate bracket should last 10 to 15 years before the sand, soil movement, and seasonal expansion open a crack. If the original lasted five, somebody cut a corner. Call us at (817) 241-4067 and we’ll tell you why it failed.
Yes, more often than you’d think. If the parent metal around the weld is still sound, we grind out the old bead, weld fresh, add a gusset, and repaint. We repair first and replace only what’s actually scrap.
Most single-bracket and hinge repairs take two to three hours on site, including cleanup and paint. A full post reinforcement runs half a day. You’ll have the gate working again the same day.
We carry common gate leaf brackets, hinge pins, gusset plate stock, and rack tabs for BFT swing and slide gates on the truck. Oddball series parts we can usually source within two to three business days from our local steel suppliers. We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls gates.
If your BFT gate is clanking, sagging, or tearing loose from its post, call (817) 241-4067. Estimates are free, the quote is written before any work starts, and the person who answers the phone actually lives in North Richland Hills.
